My early teens were spent reading, among other things, comic books, every Michael Crichton novel, and Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series. To this day all three hold a special place in my heart, however, the more I learn of Adams, the more times I read his novels, the more I’m reminded of his genius.
He is an epitome of what I would love to be and I see a lot of myself in his works — besides being a genius writer, he was an advocate for environmental and conservation causes, a lover of technology, a futurist, and unapologetic atheist fascinated by religion because of its effect on human affairs.
While researching and brainstorming ideas for this project, I happened again upon Olly Moss’ brilliant Optimism design and my mind immediately read “Don’t Panic” and I was compelled to create this homage. I enjoyed the final product so much, I decided to create my first two-color t-shirt design.
So, as a celebration of his birth (March 11th), I raise my Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster and dedicate this week’s project to Douglas Adams, a freethinker, and great inspiration.
“The Answer to the Great Question… Of Life, the Universe and Everything… Is… Forty-two, said Deep Thought, with infinite majesty and calm.”
―Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
